Nicolás Grau Veloso

Ministry of Finance

Minister of Finance, Nicolás Grau Veloso (born in Concepción in 1983), holds a degree in Business and Economics, a Master’s degree in Economics from the University of Chile, and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania (2014).

From march 11, 2022, to august 21, 2025, he served as Minister of Economy, Development, and Tourism. Among his main legislative achievements during his tenure were the approval of the Sectoral Permits Law to promote investment, the Fisheries Quota Allocation Law, and subsidies for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) and cooperatives to support them in the context of the minimum wage increase.

Until February 2022, Grau worked as a professor of economics at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Chile and as an adjunct researcher at the Center for Conflict and Social Cohesion (COES).

He also server as president of the University of Chile Student Federation (FECH) from 2005 and 2006.

He is married to Catalina Amenábar and is the father of Eloísa and Antonio.
